happy anniversary kristen & niall!
last week, i posted about these two and how much they mean to me. they eloped and it was beautiful, but because they opted for a spur of the moment ceremony, many of their friends and family members were unable to be present.
today is laurie and chris' first anniversary, so what better day than today to share a few photos from their backyard party this past july? myles and i were fortunate enough to celebrate with them on both occasions, and i'm so glad i had some 35mm along to capture their love.
^ here i am making a speech, about 30 seconds after i was asked to toast the couple. unprepared, off the cuff and heart-felt is cute, right? ^
laurie and chris. where to start?
these two and this day, ever so special to me.
laurie, a (best) friend that came into my life when i first met my husband almost four years ago. and chris, an incredible soul i've known since i was 17. after a particularly bumpy spring for both of them, their paths crossed, totally separate from mine - laurie was finally re-homing some plants with friends the same morning that a group of groggy house-guests were waking up from a rager the night previous. among them was chris.
within a few months it was clear that in each other they had found that missing piece, and shortly after they decided to make it official - they were getting married. when they asked if i would be there to sign the papers and take some photos, i agreed willingly because four years prior, i had made a promise.
it was 2011 and i was at one of the lowest points of my life. freshly heartbroken and back from the prairies, i was home, a 27 year old, living with her parents. stumbling around and not having a clue about what to do next, i spent a year in the solitude of the woods and eventually, it did wonders. in the interim, a somewhat sullen chris came to visit me one afternoon to photo together. life and love and all the things people talk about came and went. but (!) what i remember most from that day was when he said to me, "brit, i don't when it's going to be, or who it's going to be with, but when i get married, you're going to be there to take the pictures."
who would have known these eventual pictures would also include one of my closest friends, someone i had come to know so well that i'd consider her a sister?! so there i was, at their tiny ceremony in bellwoods park, camera in hand, tears in my eyes, watching two of my favourite humans, join their lives forever. what a gift!
stay tuned for part two, next week…
a summer celebration for these two, this past july.
